Icon Analysis
Robert Pattison is an English actor, born and raised in London. He plays the leading role of Edward Cullen in the film adaptions of the Twilight Novels which are four-vampire themed romance novels by author Stephanie Meyer. In Twilight, Robert Pattison (Edward), is a modern day vampire and has a special ability to read minds, with the exception of “Bella”, whom he falls in love with. He tries to leave the entire town, in order to avoid the fact that he could possibly kill Bella, but comes back because he could not stand to be away from her. I chose Robert Pattison, because Twilight is one of my favorite series, and it brings to light through the modern version a more acceptable possibility that there were those who believe in vampires. Robert’s “It factor” off screen and how he portrayed the character on screen adds to that mystique.
President Obama, the 44th President of the United States is an American story. He
came from a middle class upbringing. His father was from Kenya and his mother
from Kansas. Both of his parents were educated. He lost his father at an early age, from a car accident and also his mother who died of cancer when she was in her 50’s . I chose President Obama, because he proves that with education and hard work, there is nothing that you cannot achieve. He also represents why so many people come to the United States, in order to have a fair chance to be able to fulfill their dreams. President Obama, will also be remembered in history as being the first African American President.
Hello Kitty is a fictional Japanese cartoon character, produced by the Japanese Company Sanrio. She is portrayed as a white Japanese Bob Cat with a large head and red bow. The character emerged in the United States in the late 1990’s. Since then the Hello Kitty trademark has spread globally and has generated sales of 1 to 5 billion annually. Her sales include music, video games fashion and high end items. I chose Hello Kitty, because I have always liked the simplicity of her pleasant design that appeals to all ages.

Hi Vivian,
ReplyDeleteI like your choice of contemporary icons. Each of them serves a different purpose in Pop Culture. Hello Kitty is a popular cartoon character and little girls love her. She has a huge product line. My granddaughter Makya loves her. President Obama is an intriguing icon. He makes some really tough decisions and has a very stressful job. I don’t know much about politics I don’t even vote. I commend him for putting education as his top priority. Education is so important. I have never watched the Twilight series but, it sounds interesting in your blog. Robert Pattinson looks like a great actor. I will have to watch it whenever I have some free time.
Hi Vivian,
ReplyDeleteI had no idea who Robert Pattison was until my daughter set me straight! I am not a big “Harry Potter” fan and I have never watched a “Twilight” show so that leaves me out. I Googled him and was surprised to see that not only is he an actor but an accomplished musician. I will have to watch for him in the future.
I am a huge fan of President Obama. He is a no nonsense kind of guy and I think that comes from his background. I agree, he is truly an American success story.
I was surprised to see you chose Hello Kitty. The kitty has been around for a long time and is very big in the Asian culture. When I was in China Town in San Francisco two years ago, Hello Kitty could be seen everywhere!
Great choices in icons!
